Sydney Opera House – podium water proofing project (current)

The podium waterproofing project is a major maintenance project to replace the waterproofing membrane across the entire podium area. The waterproofing membrane installed during original construction in the 1960’s has reached end of life and must be replaced to prevent leaks occurring within the building. The project involves lifting the granite paving slabs and replacing the waterproofing membrane beneath. The work will be completed in sections to ensure that access to all venues, restaurants, bars and shops is maintained. Sydney Opera House is one of the busiest cultural  and tourist precincts in the world with more than eight million visitors setting foot on site each year. This is a vital upgrade that will ensure the longevity of this World Heritage listed building and support the wide range of tourist, community and arts activities on Bennelong Point.
